Development of a compression method for Java applets based on their structure.

The goal of this research project was to develop a compression method for Java applets based on their structure. There were two purposes of it: to shorten the download time of the applets in the internet browsers (dial-up or ISDN connection was standard at that time), and to reduce the storage requirement of the mobile apps in the mobile devices. The resulting compression ratio was about 4-times better than ZIP.

Accomplishments achieved

  • Started as my diploma thesis - successfully passed
  • Invented from scratch by myself, later with a team of coworkers
  • Built and led a team of developers
